Adventures In Yoga Multisport Vacation
Fuse your passion for active adventure with heart-opening yoga in the magical Futaleufu River Valley. Gently start your day with an hour and a half of yoga that at once relieves the morning aches while preparing you for the day’s adventure. Indulge in healthy, well-prepared meals, and set out for some inflatable kayaking or rafting on Chile's Futaleufu River. When not on the river you have the choice to go hiking in the Andes, canyoneer, or horseback riding through the unbelievable Patagonian countryside.
Complete the day with gentle, restorative yoga before retreating to your private, riverside bungalow.
H2O Patagonia has combined forces with Ted McDonald of Adventure Yoga Retreats and Kristin McGee to bring you this cutting edge combination of mindful movement and active adventure. Ted and Kristin bring a lifetime of competitive sports to their passion for yoga. Whether you’re crashing through big rapids or trotting on a horse, they will prepare your body and mind for the rigors of the day.
Whether you are an experienced yogini or a newcomer to mindful movement, this vacation offers something for you.
Adventures in Yoga Multisport Vacation with H2O Patagonia will take you away from home for seven to ten days including travel time (we offer either seven or four night packages for this trip). Yoga Adventure Vacation Sample Itinerary
Day 1 - An H2O Patagonia representative will meet you in either Puerto Montt Chile or Bariloche Argentina (your choice!), before whisking you away to our 175-acre riverside ranch on the mighty Futaleufu River. Entry via Puerto Montt entails a short flight over the Chilean Fjords and drive thru Chile's old growth forests to our base camp. Entry via Bariloche Argentina is a breathtaking drive over the Andes mountains range to Futaleufu Chile. Once settled, you'll meet your rafting guides who will prepare you for the week's adventures on the Futaleufu river.
Day 2 -Let the FUN begin!
Coffee, fruit and light baked goods await you in our quincho, the beautiful communal building that is the centerpiece of Antucamay. Yoga begins at 8:00 AM, and continues to 9:30 AM, preparing you mentally and physically for the day's activities. During inclement weather we practice yoga inside the quincho, and when skies are clear we spread out on our 2000 square foot veranda overlooking the river. A full breakfast is served following yoga, and then we head out for rafting on the Bridge to Bridge section of the Futaleufu. The rapids in this section are big and exciting, but consider them a warm-up for the whitewater to come. Rapids such as Entrada, Pillow, and Mundaca get you into the rhythm of the mighty Rio Futaleufu. After our whitewater baptism we return to Antucamay for massages, soaks in the hot tub, fine food and wine, and a short session of restorative yoga to cap a perfect day.
Day 3 -
Hike and float upper Futaleufu:
Yoga instructor Ted McDonald warms up our bodies perfectly for the hiking and paddling that will consume the day. Following yoga and breakfast your morning is spent trekking through an awe-inspiring nature preserve along the Upper Futaleufu River. Later, we'll paddle inflatable kayaks back down to Antucamay. Your night is spent dining on exquisite food and relaxing in our spa.
Day 4 - Horseback ride with local "huasos" (Chilean Cowboys):
Ted's personalized morning session prepares your hips and back for your adventure in the saddle. Today, cool-tempered horses lead you through the breathtaking hills and valleys of Futaleufu. This ride makes you feel as if you have stepped back in time, back into the old-world charm that permeates this region. After the ride we return to Antucamay for a restful evening of pampering.
Day 5 - Rafting the Futaleufu River, Inferno Canyon:
Nothing is better than a healthy yoga session before taking on big rapids, and today it is back to Whitewater Rafting! Today we launch at the ranch and float downstream to Inferno Canyon*. This section is the perfect mix of gorgeous pools punctuated by stomping whitewater. At the confluence of the Rio Azul we'll call it a day and return to the rustic luxury and comfort of Antucamay.
Day 6 - Canyoning and inflatable kayaking:
If you've ever dreamed of being a kid again, canyoning is for you. Canyoning is the hybrid of water sports and mountain climbing. Rappel down waterfalls, leap into turquoise pools, zoom down water slides, and crawl through tiny caverns. After canyoning, you'll spend the afternoon kayaking down the Espolon, a stunning tributary of the Futaleufu.
Day 7 - Rafting the Futaleufu River, Pasarella to Casa de Empanadas, Class III-V:
Your adventurous week closes with a bang! **World-class rapids are interspersed with calm pools on this final day of rafting.
Day 8 - Departure Day:
After a final yoga session, a hearty breakfast and a farewell to your guides, staff and yoga instructors, fly back over the Andes to Puerto Montt (or transport to Esquel or Bariloche). Please plan your Puerto Montt-Santiago flight for mid-afternoon in order to meet your outbound international connection that evening. Most international connections leave Santiago after 8:00 PM, arriving at US destinations early the following morning.
